Wiley’s Last Resort
Wiley's Last Resort is at the end of the Whirled on top of Pine Mountain (Second highest mountain in Kentucky), Letcher County, Kentucky. It is a spectacular primitive campground with natural, honest, generous, kind, invigorating, quintessential, astute, loving human beans. It is really a wonderful thing. Bring water, ice, flashlights, tents, your own instruments of musicality, your own poetry, storytellers, your stories, artists, your art, and your own special kindness.
WLR offers 90 acres on top of the mountain to SWARP with swimming, hiking trails, multiple stages, and primitive camping.
It is sad, but we have to exact limitations on human bean behavior, lest folks impinge, interfere and destruct other human beans opportunity to SWARP, HENCE, it must be remembered and understood that INTOLERANCE of any kind will not be TOLERATED. No pills, no drugs, no guns, no bad attitudes, and no dogs with bad attitudes, our dogs will simply not put up with that. The resort also does not allow glass bottles AT ALL, because we love our dogs, deer, bear and human beans. Please bring beverages of choice in plastic or aluminum and recycle. Mother earth loves it. Bears are present on the mountain and they do like food, so do not leave it out, or you may be magnificently hungry in the morning.
All attendees, at WLR, by their attendance at the resort, accept full responsibility for anything good, bad, or indifferent that may happen and will not hold WLR responsible for anything that may happen and agree not to bring refreshing cold beverages in bottles. In other words, you're responsible for yourself. Please remember donations are always accepted, because it costs money to keep the light on.
From the bypass in Whitesburg, at the corner of HWY 15 and HWY 119, turn @ the McDonalds on HWY 119 South towards Cumberland and go 4.5 miles, until you crest Pine Mountain and start to go down, you will see a cabin on the left, then turn left onto Flow Mingo Road into the resort.
We hope you enjoy your time on the mountain, as it has been one of the 99 wonders of the whirled since 1996.
The late Jim Webb, who passed in October, 2018 launched Wiley’s Last Resort in 1996. The property is now owned by Katie Eagle, Jim Webb’s partner of many years. It is operated by Steve Justice, Katie’s son. Steve pretty much spent his adult life on those 90 acres on top of Pine Mountain. He brings with him an understanding of the past, the importance of the property’s history and how to sustain the property for future generations. Stay tuned as we grow, develop and become a tourism meca for Eastern Kentucky and the Central Appalachian region!
