Appalachian Love Letters Photography Workshop

Appalachian Love Letters Photography workshop will take place at Wiley’s Last Resort on top of beautiful Pine Mountain in Whitesburg, Ky. The workshop is led by Malcolm Wilson and Jared Hamilton. Both of their bodies of work could be called love letters for Appalachia. While not hiding the rough edges both Malcolm and Jared are known widely for showing the beauty of the mountains and the people.

The Workshop is designed to help students and emerging photographers gain experience in situations that closely mimic real world assignments. When a national publication contacts you to cover a current news story in most situations you have limited time and access with your subjects. ALL photo workshop is meant to help attendees learn how to make good photos under that kind of pressure.

Another important part of freelancing is the art of the pitch. Attendees will have a chance to pitch us on their final assignment for the workshop. The workshop will consist of four total assignments including the pitched story. There will be daily critiques on the assignments and portfolio reviews at the beginning of the workshop.

It is suggested for attendees to arrive early on Tuesday July, 25. The workshop will begin bright and early on Wednesday July 26 and programming will run until lunch/final critiques on Sunday July 30. Wiley’s Last Resort is a campground. Camping will be included in the price of the workshop. If attendees wish to stay at an air bnb or hotel off of the property they will be welcome to do so. It will also be an option to upgrade to one of the cabins on property for an extra fee.
